Favorite 5 Assistive Technology Devices from ATIA

I was extremely impressed with professionals and vendors that I had the honor of speaking to while I was at ATIA this last week.  It was great to walk around the exhibition hall connecting with other assistive technology professionals and making contacts and plans with vendor sales reps for some technology fairs.  Considering the majority of my professional time is spent educating others on the devices out there, it always feels good to be on the other side of the fence, being the student and taking in all the new innovation.  However, I wanted to share 5 of my favorite devices and software programs that I encountered while I was at ATIA:

Augmentative Alternative Communication
What I love about it:
  • It is one of the best Augmentative Alternative systems that can run on Android platform.
  • Allows users to text into Social Networking Sites using the device
Low Vision/Blindness

What I love about 6Dot:
  • Easy QWERTY Keyboard Input connected through USB
  • Once it is charged, it is small and portable so it can be taken anywhere

What I love about it:
  • The pairing of the desk top and the mobile Prodigi means that user would only have to learn one operating system in order to maximize the capabilities of the device

  • The Prodigi photographs crisp, high resolution pictures in books for enlargement
What I love about it:
  • Easily adjustable after installation
  • The modular hose can be used on both surfaces such as table tops or the users positioning device (standers, wheelchairs, etc)

What I love About it:
  • It is a joystick that can be ordered specifically for computer navigation
  • This would be a great switch for a student or consumer who needs joystick training before prior to owning a power wheelchair.
