IPad App Review: Blue Hat, Green Hat

Green Hat, Blue Hat is an interactive book by Sandra Boyton's Moo Moo Media and Loud Crow Developers for iOS was created for all infants and toddlers ages 0-5.  However, this app has been widely and positively received among professionals working in the world of visual impairments, deaf and hard of hearing, and speech and language.  An important feature of this app for children with sensory loss is the simple, high contrast  pictures paired with the simple language within the text.  The child can practice one to one correspondence and finger isolation skills while interacting with movable animals on each page. Additionally, the app holds a different surprise every time the child presses the "oops" word or picture.  Since Blue Hat, Green Hat is interactive and tells a sequential story, it holds the attention of many infants and toddlers so they can continue to work on their therapy routines and while also reinforces the concept of beginning and ending an activity and attention to task.
